Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has confirmed that Sergio Ramos' goal against Atlético Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final has changed much of football history.

This came in a press statement made by the newspaper "Marca" during which he confirmed that the team changed the way he thought after that goal completely.

"It's very difficult to make assumptions, but maybe that goal Ramos scored in Lisbon has changed the history of football in Europe somewhat," Modric said.

He added: "Real Madrid have won the title several times before but it has been 12 years without the championship and this goal changed everything, made us stronger in Europe."

He continued: "The problem was psychological as the team reached the semi-finals three times and did not succeed, and once we reached the final and scored that goal everything changed and we have a stronger personality."

"He's shy like me and sometimes he doesn't talk much, but he's adapted to the team well and enjoys playing with the team, but everyone enjoys his way," he said of his teammate Gareth Bale.

It is worth mentioning that Modric won the Ballon d'Or and the best award for the International Federation last season after leading Real Madrid to the third consecutive Champions League title and reaching the World Cup final with Croatia.
