Former Real Madrid player Xabi Alonso said that his curiosity about training under coach Pep Guardiola was what prompted him to leave the royal team towards Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014.

It is worth mentioning that Alonso announced the retirement of football at the end of the 2016/17 season after a career that started at Real Sociedad and then Liverpool and then went to Real Madrid and then put an end to his career at Bayern Munich.

Alonso reveals why he left Real Madrid in 2014:

Alonso told The Athletic magazine: "My departure to Bayern Munich was out of curiosity to know Guardiola's secrets, and I felt with him that we knew the opponent more than we know ourselves."

"I enjoyed the round witch under his leadership, the football seasons are long, but until the end of the season, Pep never looked tired, he was always ready, enthusiastically and passionately, and maybe that gave us extra meters in our feet, especially during crucial periods."

"Now that I'm a coach and of course I learned a lot from Guardiola during my years with him at the Bavarian giants, I got a different look at the ball that helped me start my career as a technical manager," he said.

Chappie Alonso is currently the coach of Real Sociedad's youth team, and he is nominated by press reports to be a Real Madrid coach soon.
