Alonso: Messi changed and Pique did not deserve a penalty

Former Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso confirms that Gerard Pique did not deserve a penalty against Real Sociedad.

Former Real Madrid player and second-team coach At Real Sociedad confirmed that Barcelona defender Gerard Pique did not deserve a penalty kick in the recent clash between the two teams.

This came in a press statement made by Alonso during which he confirmed that he enjoyed a lot of Barcelona and Real Sociedad in the round of 17 of la Liga.

Alonso said: "I enjoyed Barcelona's match against Real Sociedad a lot, it was a very nice match and it was a lot of competition, during the first half Sociedad was better but then things were balanced."

"We've had a lot of talk about that ball and I haven't seen any penalty kicks in it, frankly, there's a lot of hype around it," he said about Pique's ball.

"Real Madrid are in very good shape, but playing at the Camp Nou is always complicated, but in the end, it's a balanced match," he said.

He ended his remarks: "Messi is at a different stage right now, he's more selective and he chooses when to play, but when he decides it's crucial, I watched him that day and found out."

It is worth mentioning that Barcelona will host Real Madrid on Wednesday evening at the Camp Nou in the postponed match between them since last October.
