Jean-Michel Aulas, the President of Lyon, explained the reasons behind the failure of the transfer of former team star and current Real Madrid Karim Benzema to Manchester United in the past.

Real Madrid joined the French striker in 2009 from Lyon for around 35 million euros and became one of the most important players of the current decade.

Aulas said to "beIN": "When Benzema asked me to leave Lyon, I had received two offers, one from Manchester United, and the other from Real Madrid".

He continued: "Like Fekir, Karim came to me and asked me to leave, and that shows how strong our relationship is, he told me that his dream is to play with Real Madrid."

He concluded: "We sent him to Real Madrid even though manchester united's offer was the best and the highest."

Benzema is currently in one of his best seasons with the Royals, scoring 14 goals in all competitions.
